Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is standing by its recommendations as the district’s ongoing boundary study continues. As part of the review, MCPS is considering a new structure for organizing academic programs. The proposal would divide high schools into six regional groups, each consisting of four to five schools. Within this model, the district would establish five program themes, and every high school would offer one or two programs that align with those themes.
At the Nov. 20 Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Thomas Taylor said the district’s goal is to build a more unified and equitable system across the county.
“Our goal is to create a coordinated countywide system that is fair, efficient and expands access to high-quality programs and ensures strong local opportunities for every student,” Taylor said. He added that decisions about school assignments and program access must evolve together to better support all students.
These recommendations will continue to be reviewed as the boundary study progresses, with potential impacts on future school assignments and program availability.
