The Montgomery County Board of Education has officially approved both the traditional and innovative school year calendars for the 2026–2027 school year during its Dec. 11 meeting.
Under the traditional calendar, students will have 181 instructional days, including four contingency days built in for weather or unexpected closures. The year begins with a Student Transition Day, a non-instructional day on Monday, Aug. 24, 2026.
The first day of school for students will be Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, and the last day is scheduled for Wednesday, June 16, 2027.
Major breaks include:
- Winter Break: Dec. 23, 2026 – Jan. 3, 2027
- Spring Break: March 26 – April 4, 2027
Key holidays and observances remain aligned with state requirements, including Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and other mandated closures.
The approved calendar provides families and staff with a clear framework for planning ahead as MCPS prepares for another academic year.
